What Is The Melanated Rising House?

The Melanated Rising House is a community for Black creatives to come together to dismantle our internalized oppressions and break free of the narratives holding us back so that we can each take bold action in our creative work, live our full Black selves, and make a powerful social impact.

As Black folx our journey is uniquely challenging, and as Black creatives our work is vital to the world. This House is a virtual home tailored to our specific needs in a way that cultivates healing, fosters genuine connection, inspires creative action, and allows you to show up fully as you are both in the House and in the world beyond.

About Me

I'm Kristin Iris Johnson, a Black queer film producer, writer, and coach living in Chicago, IL. I'm passionate about challenging oppressive power dynamics and systems by helping Black creatives step into their power. That's why I worked hard to build a business and podcast that centers the particular needs of Black folx while also igniting their creative work. Today, I've built this community to help Black creatives who want to make an impact, clear the shit holding them back, stand fully in who they are, and take bold creative action in their work.

Who is The House For?

The Melanated Rising House is exclusively for members of the Black diaspora (incl. Pan-African, Afrolatinx, and mixed race Black folx) of all gender expressions and sexual orientations - NO hoteps. This is a place for Black creatives who are passionate about their work, fed up with the constant battle against fear and doubt holding them back, and want the confidence to show up fully as they are so they can impact people in a deeper way.

The systems of oppression that dominate our society on a global level (white supremacy, hetero-patriarchy, classism, and more) have a deep impact on us as Black folx specifically. They breed deep fears, doubts, and harmful social conditioning that are hard to break (or even recognize). That all creates huge limitations for us in every area of our lives. In The House you will explore and dismantle those limitations, build the confidence to be fully YOU, cultivate genuine nourishing connections with Black folx, and be supported mentally, emotionally, and creatively by others as you take bold action. 

We are artists, coaches, activists, entrepreneurs, side-hustlers, performers, athletes, healers, writers, nerds, podcasters, folx in tech and science, dreamers, doers, and visionaries! If you want to live out your purpose and affect people on a deeper level you're in the right place!
